Equipment name: ED-XRF

Brand name: Bruker

Model name: S2 Puma

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is the emission of characteristic “secondary” (or fluorescent) X-rays from a material that has been excited by bombarding with high-energy X-rays. Bruker S2 Puma ED-XRF irradiation apparatus offers non-destructive analytical technique used to obtain elemental composition information from different types of materials. We recommend our client to send not less than 8 grams with particle size ≤ 75 µm of each sample.

Equipment name: XRD

Brand name: Bruker

Model name: D6 Phaser

X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) is a non-destructive analytical technique which can yield the unique definition of crystalline phases. Every crystal has a defined structure which is like human fingerprint, XRD can be used to characterized its structure. Spectrums produced are analyzed using DIFFRAC.EVA and ICDD PDF 5+ software that contains more the 200,000 databases of organic, inorganic, forensic material, pigments, and others. Sample in powder form must be at least 5 grams and with between the 120 µm to 212 µm range particle size. Alternatively, sample submitted in solid form must be 10 mm-20 mm in size and 5mm thickness. Thin film sample type is acceptable.

Both equipment now located in Radiation Laboratory Room of the Engineering Research Building, Curtin University Malaysia in Miri, Sarawak.
