First Aid Course

Welcome to our first aid course designed specifically for students studying Applied Geology. All geologists should have a sound practical knowledge of first aid, including a current First Aid Certificate. You should always carry with you, in your backpack, a small personal first aid kit. Each team will be provided with a first aid kit from the Department of Applied Geology. The most common injuries experienced by geologists are ankle injuries and cuts and abrasions. Ankle injuries can be avoided by wearing boots that support the ankles. Cuts and abrasions should be attended to immediately to prevent infection. First Aid certification is not obligatory for this unit, however it is obligatory for GFM in semester 2, hence students are encouraged to get the training organised early. Details will be provided in lectures and more information related to this first aid course can be found in the unit outline as attached.

In line with the current practice at Curtin Perth, all engineering students are no longer required to complete First Aid training in order to graduate from the course. Starting from Semester 1 2023, it is now an optional course for all engineering/computing/BTech students (both existing and new students).

However, First Aid training is now mandatory for Applied Geology students prior to joining field trips.
