Shell Eco-marathon 2010 International Competition

The Shell Eco-marathon challenges College and University student teams from around the world to design, build and test energy efficient vehicles. With annual events in the Americas, Europe and Asia, the winner is the team that goes the furthest distance using the least amount of energy. The inaugural event of the Shell Eco-marathon Asia was held on 8-10 July 2010 at the Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Curtin University Engineering students team, the Hornbill Lightz, participated in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia on 8-10 July 2010 at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. The Hornbill Lightz team entered a vehicle in the Prototype category, and the team successfully completed and qualified for the competition. Curtin University Horbill Lightz team successfully achieved the following:-

  1. Ranked 18/81 international teams from all over the world.
  2. Shortlisted for Best Malaysian team award out of nineteen teams.
  3. Won US$1,000 for successful completion with completion of a minimum of one valid run.
  4. Qualified for the Early Bird Incentive, worth US$1,000.
