Background

Dr. Syed Bilawal Ali Shah is an accomplished Petroleum Geologist with a Ph.D. in Petroleum Geology from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. Currently serving as a Lecturer at Curtin University Malaysia and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), he possesses extensive expertise in petroleum geological, structural, and geophysical processes. His research contributions encompass reservoir characterization, source rock evaluation, seismic interpretation, and basin modeling, with over 28 published or accepted articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

With a strong academic and research background, Dr. Shah has held positions as a Visiting Faculty Assistant Professor at Bahria University Islamabad and worked as a Research Assistant in the Geology Department at the University of Malaya. His professional experience includes industry exposure through internships with Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) and Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), where he gained hands-on expertise in petroleum exploration and reservoir assessment.

Dr. Shah’s research portfolio highlights his proficiency in geological software applications, including Petrel Schlumberger, PetroMod 1D/2D Basin Modeling, and Interactive Petrophysics, which he utilizes for seismic structural interpretation and reservoir characterization. He has been actively involved in research grants, with significant contributions to projects on facies analysis and organic geochemical characterization in Malaysia.
Beyond academia, he is also an active reviewer for multiple international journals and has conducted numerous workshops on academic writing, research proposal development, and publishing in impact factor journals. With an h-index of 7 and an i10-index of 6, Dr. Shah continues to contribute to the advancement of petroleum geology through innovative research and academic collaborations.
