Mechanical Engineering Week 2013
Posted date:Miri – 15 October 2013 – Curtin University Mechanical Engineering Club (CUMEC) successfully organized its flagship event, the Mechanical Engineering Week (ME Week) from the 28th of August to 30th August 2013. The event is third in its series, and similar to its predecessors, the objective of the event is to promote Curtin’s Mechanical Engineering Department as well as CUMEC to the students in the university. This is an annual event which allows students from the Mechanical Engineering field and beyond to put their mechanical engineering expertise into practical use with exciting activities & games, as well as broadening their knowledge in this field with the industrial exposure and talks being offered. This event is fully supported by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The ME Week, with its theme: “Engineer Your Dream with Us” was officially launched by Dr Sharul Sham Bin Dol, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, with the initiation of a simple Rude Goldberg launching mechanism during the opening ceremony on the morning of the 28th August 2013. In conjunction with the ME Week, CUMEC also celebrated their 2nd anniversary with Dr Sharul Sham, Miss Lim Chye Ing, Dr Moola Mohan Reddy and Dr Vincent Lee.
A series of career talks were hosted at for the event with guest speakers from the Tokuyama Bintulu plant and MJM (Palm Oil Mill) Sdn Bhd. The talks were intended to give an insight to the participants on the prospect of Mechanical Engineering in the local industry from the experts in the area. The talks also serve as a platform for 3rd year students to apply for internship and drop-in their resumes.
A site visit to Imperial Palace Mall New Building Construction Site was also conducted on the 30th of August 2013 with a total of 15 participants. The site visit aims to expose participants to the engineering challenges when designing the lift system, as well as the air-conditioning and fire extinguishing system of a building.

Throughout ME Week, exciting games have been organized at the LT foyer and the Pre-Event Area at the Recreational (REC) hall with attractive prizes to be won. CUMEC would like to thank all the participants, volunteers as well as the guest speakers and the lecturers involved for making this event a successful one.
