Call for Entries: James Dyson Award 2013
Posted date:Mechanical Engineering Department is calling for all undergraduates, postgraduate and fresh graduate to participate in the James Dyson Award 2013, an international design competition run in 18 countries, organised by the James Dyson Foundation. The James Dyson Award (JDA) is an international design award that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers. It’s run by the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson’s charitable trust, as part of its mission to inspire young people about design engineering.
The award requires students to ‘design something that solves a problem’. The JDA will be presented to the student whose work best demonstrates the ability to think differently and create a much needed product that works better. The judges will be looking for a project that:
-
demonstrates a significant and practical purpose, offering real benefits to the end user
- is ideally a working prototype
- is designed with sustainability in mind
- is commercially viable
Enter your project and bring it to the attention of professional designers and engineers worldwide. The international JDA winner (or team) will receive:
- £30,000 to the student or student team (of up to four team members)
- £10,000 or the donation of a piece of equipment up to the value of £10,000 to the university department where the winner studies or previously studied. In either case, the prizes will be converted into the winner’s local currency at the current exchange rate at the time of announcing the winner.
- The James Dyson Award Certificate.
- A trophy from the James Dyson Foundation.
The national winner from each participating country will receive:
- £2,000 each to the student or student team. The prizes will be converted into the winner’s local currency at the current exchange rate at the time of announcing the winner.
- The James Dyson Award Certificate.
The closing date of the competition is 1st of August 2013, midnight, British Summer Time. The terms and condition of competition can be found here. For more information about the award, please refer to James Dyson Award official website.
