PhD studentships in Civil & Construction Engineering
Posted date:THREE (3) PhD studentships are available immediately at the Civil & Construction Engineering Department in Curtin University Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak). They provide an exciting opportunity for academically able students holding at least an upper second class honours degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering to conduct advanced research study leading to the award of a PhD degree. Curtin Sarawak, established since 1999, is the first and the largest offshore branch campus of Curtin University, Perth in Western Australia. Curtin University is ranked 40th in the world for universities under the age of 50 and has been awarded a five-star overall excellence rating in the International QS Stars rating 2014.
The PhD students will participate in the joint research project “Development of a Sustainable Industrialized Building System Using Cold-Formed Structural Steel”, funded under the Curtin Sarawak Research Institute (CSRI) Flagship Research Grant scheme. CSRI is a multidisciplinary research institute located at the Curtin Sarawak’s Miri Campus. It was set up in 2011 through funds provided by Curtin University, Western Australia, and the Government of Malaysia.
This research project covers the following research areas: i) performance of cold-formed steel trusses, ii) cold-formed steel decking profile for composite slabs, and iii) cold formed steel composite sandwich wall panels, each of which will form a PhD thesis topic. The supervision team consists of Associate Professor Lau Hieng Ho, Professor Marcus Lee, Dr Andrew Whyte, Associate Professor Muhammad Ekhlasur, Dr Tang Fu Ee and Dr Charles Kwet Shin Loo Chin Moy.
Each studentship covers the tuition fees and a monthly stipend of RM2000 for three years. Successful applicants must be enrolled as a PhD candidate at Curtin Sarawak, which awards the same degrees as those from Curtin University, Perth.
