CUMEC Industrial Talk – Career and Challenges for Engineers in the Oil and Gas Industries
Posted date:Two career talks were held in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering week 2012. CUMEC had invited two experienced guest speakers from the oil and gas industries to share their experience with the engineering students. Dr. Ir. Edwin Jong, the General Manager of Jurutera Perunding Akal, spoke about “Challenges in the 21st Century for Materials Engineers & Technicians in the Malaysian Oil & Gas Industry” while Ir. Lee Hung Sang, Senior Project Manager of Petra Resources Sdn. Bh. talked about “Career Development for Mechanical Engineer in Oil and Gas Industry”.
The attendance was encouraging where about 70 students participated in these talk sessions held on the last day of ME week 2012. The talks were really inspiring and benefitial for the students. A lot of information regarding latest development in the oil and gas industries, potential routes of professional development that were relevant to engineering students who wish to develop their career in this industry were shared by the speakers. Question and answering session allowed final year students to enquire about the internship and job opportunities. Attendants of the talk were able to come in contact and communicate with the two well- experienced engineers that worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 30 years during the high-tea session and also lunch session after the talks. In conclusion, the career talk during the ME week was a great event for students to pick up more knowledge and start planning the pathway of success in the real industrial world.
