Curtin Sarawak academic appointed member of Board of Trustees, Open Access Publishing London
Posted date:Miri – 6 March 2013 – Associate Professor Dr. Michael K. Danquah of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, School of Engineering and Science, Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) has been appointed a member of the Board of Trustees of Open Access Publishing London (OAPL).
OAPL is a London-based independent open-access medical and scientific publishing house providing a ‘peer reviewed’ platform to outstanding researchers and scientists. It provides a platform for the researchers and scientists to exhibit their findings for the furtherance of science as well as an educational forum for scientific debate. Its in-house team consists of prominent scientists, physicians and economists.
The members of the Board of Trustees are elected or specifically recruited based on their expertise and experience in a range of skills with global recognition. The Trustees provide strategic direction to the publishing house; oversee activities and progress, as well as the management of the journals; and deal with complaints and all ethical issues raised by the authors, reviewers or editors.
Dr. Danquah completed his doctorate in Biochemical Engineering from Monash University, Australia after obtaining a bachelor degree (First Class) in Chemical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.
Prior to joining Curtin Sarawak in 2012, he was a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Principal Research Fellow of the Bio Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University.
Dr. Danquah has contributed significantly to the field of chemical and biological engineering where he utilises biomolecular and cellular engineering and interactions to enhance the detection, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases; develop environmental bioremediation systems; and produce sustainable biofuels and fine chemicals.
He has published over 140 journal articles and conference publications. In addition, he has won many accolades including the 2012 TR35@Singapore Outstanding Young Innovator in Asia and Pacific Regions Award; IChemE Highly Commended in Bioprocessing Award (2010); Monash Distinguished Early Career Alumni Award (2008); and AUSBIOTECH (Australian Biotechnology Organisation) Award of Excellence in Biotechnology (2006).
Dr. Danquah, who was the finalist of the World Technology Award for Biotechnology (2012), is also an editorial board member of the American Journal of Physical Chemistry; and an associate editor of BioMed Central (BMC) Biotechnology and the Journal of Biotechnology Applications.
The OAPL Board of Trustees is currently chaired by Professor Alexander Marcus Seifalian of University College London, United Kingdom. Its other members include Prof. John L. Dornhoffer of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, United States (Vice Chair); Prof. Brion Benninger of Western University of Health Sciences, United States; Prof. Xu Cao of Johns Hopkins University, United States; Prof. Francine Durocher of Université Laval Cancer Genomics Laboratory, Canada; and Prof. Xiaohui Fan of Zhejiang University, China.
Other appointed members are Prof. Sidney W. Fu of George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, United States; Prof. Junji Furuse of Kyorin University School of Medicine, Japan; Prof. Charlie Hodgman of University of Nottingham, United Kingdom; Prof. Bernat Kocsis of Harvard Medical School, United States; Prof. Ravi Mehrotra of Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology, India; Prof. Ilka Nemere of Utah State University, United States; Prof. Angelo Pietrobelli of Verona University Medical School, Italy; and Prof. Steve Winder of University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
