Background

Associate Professor Hisham Kh. Ben Mahmud is a Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia Institute. Dr Hisham has joined Curtin University Sarawak in 2013 as a Lecturer and he is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Curtin University, Malaysia. He previously worked as a Sessional Academic Staff with the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Curtin University, Australia. He completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Curtin University, Australia after obtaining MSc. Degree in Engineering Studies from Sydney University (SYDU), G. Diploma in Oil and Gas Degree from Western Australia University and a BSc. Hons Degree in Chemical Engineering from Tripoli University (Libya).

Associate Professor Hisham’s research focuses on the enhanced oil recovery from conventional and unconventional reservoirs.  He focuses on two interest areas: EOR technologies for on/offshore conventional oil reservoirs and unconventional reservoirs. Also he focuses on well stimulation using acidizing approach. He focuses on both experiment and numerical modelling method to develop an acid mixture that could remove the formation damage and improve reservoir properties. Moreover, his research inters is on well production optimization and optimize the risk of hydrate formation in subsea systems. His ground-breaking research on well acidizing and fracturing has resulted in securing some research grants. Associate Professor Hisham has supervised several higher degree research students, and honours project students. He has published significantly with over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference publications, and a current H-index of 5.
