Young Researcher Award at ICIRSTM 2017
PhD student Lee Mok Siang of Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) did his varsity proud by winning a Young Researcher Award at the recent International Conference on Innovative Research in Science, Technology and Management (ICIRSTM 2017) held at National University Singapore (NUS).
Lee was among four to receive the award, the other recipients being from Hindu University, India; Evalueserve SEZ, India; and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

21 May 2017 – IEEE Digital Maker Expo
IEEE Digital Maker Expo is a national event, initiated by IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch to promote science, technology, engineering and volunteerism to the community in East Malaysia. The event will be held in the Rec Hall of Curtin Sarawak Campus on 12th and 13th May 2017. The theme of this expo is “Inspiring Innovators for Digital Nation”
Digital Maker Expo aims to provide opportunities to students from universities, secondary and primary schools and public communities to expose themselves towards the latest technologies such as 3D printers, embedded system, and other latest engineering products.

Young Innovate Miri
The ‘Young Innovate Miri’ programme is a community service programme by Curtin Sarawak involving secondary school students in partnership with industry partners and government agencies Dreamcatcher, Chumbaka, TEGAS, Sarawak Energy and iM4U. Read this article further here
Light of Borneo Project (LOB)
Curtin Malaysia IEEE student branch and AIESEC worked together to provide electricity to people in Kampung Api-Api. The solar powered lamps were distributed among the villagers. Read this article further here
IEEE-IAS in the United States
The 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the IEEE- Industry Application Society (IAS) was held in Portland, Oregon, USA in 2016. Dr. Garenth Lim and Esther Ling Pi Ya were among delegates from Malaysia. Read this article further here
I-Teach is the program held for rural and illiterate youth surrounding Miri area. IEEE has co-organized the M Sarawak, Persatuan Belia Dayak Serawak (PEBEDAS) and Methodist Learning Centre in Tudan in Miri to teach the illiterate youths on how to use computers and Microsoft Office. IEEE Malaysia leadership camp
IEEE Malaysia section organised a student branch leadership camp at Universty Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The aim was to promote leadership skill and share experience in the running of IEEE student branches. Francelouis Tie Sing Yong and Chiam Dar Hung represented Curtin Malaysia in this trip. Solar Bus Maintenance
The lightning system in solar bus stop was vandalised in 2015. There was no light in the bus stop and night and students in Curtin Malaysia realised that it was important to have decent lightning around Curtin university. IEEE Curtin Malaysia felt the need to help the community and initiated the project to repair the lightning system in the bus stop.Read this article further here
