Miri – 12 August 2010 – The Department of Electrical Engineering of the School of Engineering and Science at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak)’s recently installed licenced proprietary software donated by Operation Technology, Inc. that will greatly enhance the capabilities of the department’s Electrical Power Laboratory.
The ETAP Power Systems software valued at USD130,000 serves as a great hands-on teaching and learning tool for Curtin Sarawak’s electrical engineering students in the understanding and usage of the most popular enterprise solution for electrical power systems worldwide.
It also gives students enrolled in the Electrical Power Engineering course the opportunity to develop real-world skills with the best cutting edge power analysis software tools.
ETAP is the most comprehensive enterprise solution for design, simulation, operation, control, optimisation, and automation of generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems. It is used in a wide range of industries, including generation plants, transmission and distribution, engineering consulting, nuclear generation plants, oil and gas, data centres, renewable energy, manufacturing, metals and mining, government and military, transportation and education.
It offers educational software packages for instructors, university computer laboratories and students. Universities and colleges use ETAP software to teach students in electrical engineering to design, model and analyse electrical power systems.
Curtin Sarawak’s Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Power Engineering) course is focused on the study of power generation, power transmission and distribution, power electronics and power quality, electric machines and motor control, control engineering, speed drive systems, hybrid power systems and renewable energy.
The course requires four years of full-time study, including a common first year applicable to all engineering disciplines, which builds students’ range of basic science skills and knowledge, with particular emphasis on physics, chemistry and mathematics.
